Year 5
Ms Bashir, Miss Dawson and Miss Iram would like to welcome you to year 5.
We’re looking forward to a wonderful year ahead, filled with curiosity, learning and achievement. In year 5, we have exciting topics that children will really enjoy. Here's what we'll be covering over the year:

Below is our weekly timetable, detailing the subjects your child will be participating in each week. It offers a clear overview of what a typical week looks like in year 5.
Class timetable
PE
We have PE every Thursday and Friday so remember to have your PE kit in school and make sure kits are labelled with your name.
Homework
Children are expected to do homework every day. This includes: reading, learning spellings and times tables.
Reading
Daily reading is encouraged as this helps to develop vocabulary, increase your fluency and understanding as well as foster a love for reading. Children choose a book of their choice based on their reading level and make a note of reading in their reading records.
Spelling
Children are given up to ten spellings every Monday, which are tested on Friday. If children want to be a Super Speller, these need to be practised every day. Use Spelling Shed and log on with your username and password to access spelling games for your homework.
Children learn on one times table for two weeks with a focus on multiplication facts in week one and division facts in week two. They should spend 5 - 10 minutes a day learning the timetables and should know the tables up to 12 times. If children know all the times-tables, this knowledge can be applied to larger and smaller numbers. Knowing the timetables is necessary to access year 5 maths because it is needed for a range of learning including: written multiplication and division, fractions, percentages, area and volume, and time.
