Our Learning

Year 4

Welcome to Year 4!

Mrs Cunningham, Miss Dawson, Miss Harris, and Mrs Haworth are delighted to welcome you and your child to Year 4. We’re looking forward to an exciting and successful year filled with learning, growth, and fun.

Below, you’ll find our weekly timetable, which outlines the subjects and activities your child will take part in throughout the week. This will give you a clearer picture of what a typical week in Year 4 looks like.

We’re starting the year with an exciting local history topic called O’le Pendle. In this unit, the children will explore the fascinating story of the Pendle Witches — a significant part of Lancashire’s history. Through a mix of storytelling, historical investigation, and creative activities, the children will gain a deeper understanding of life in the past and how local events have shaped our community.

This topic is always a firm favourite here at Primet and promises to capture the children’s imagination right from the start!

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to speak to one of us — we’re always happy to help.

P.E. Days – Wednesday and Friday
Our P.E. kit, which should be kept in school at all times,  consists of:

  • Black shorts or leggings

  • A plain white t-shirt

  • Black trainers

To help avoid any lost items, please make sure that all pieces of the P.E. kit are clearly labelled with your child’s name.

To support learning in school, we ask that children complete the following tasks each evening:

  • Learn Weekly Spellings
Spellings will be given out every Monday, ready for a spelling test on Friday.

  • Practise Times Tables
Children should practise their times tables regularly throughout the week, in preparation for a times tables test on Friday.

  • Read for at Least 5 Minutes Daily
Please encourage your child to read every evening for at least 5 minutes. Don’t forget to bring your book bag and reading book to school each day

Timetables

Children should spend at least 10 minutes a day learning their timetables and should know their tables up to 12 times.

Timetables provide a foundation for a range of learning in maths including written multiplication and division, fractions, percentages and time.

Many Thanks
