Our Learning

Geography

Intent statement

At Primet Primary, our Geography curriculum is designed to develop children’s curiosity about the world and their place within it. We aim to inspire pupils to become confident enquirers who ask questions and seek answers about their local environment and the wider world. Through a carefully sequenced curriculum, children build knowledge and skills progressively, from understanding their immediate surroundings to exploring global issues. Our intent is to foster a sense of responsibility for the planet, an appreciation of diverse cultures and environments, and the ability to think critically about geographical patterns and processes.

Implementation

Geography is taught through engaging, well structured units that combine knowledge with practical skills. Lessons include opportunities for fieldwork, map work, and the use of atlases, globes, and digital mapping tools. Pupils learn to interpret geographical information, use directional and locational language, and apply key vocabulary accurately. Each year group builds on prior learning, moving from local studies to national and global contexts. Teachers use enquiry-based approaches, encouraging pupils to ask questions, investigate, and draw conclusions. Cross-curricular links, outdoor learning, and real-world applications ensure that geography is meaningful and relevant.
