Our Learning

Summer 2 - The spider and the fly

Our Year 3 Summer 2 term curriculum offers an engaging and well-rounded learning journey across a range of subjects, designed to inspire curiosity and build key skills. In English, pupils explore narrative and poetry through the text The Spider and the Fly, developing their reading and writing abilities while enhancing spelling knowledge. Geography takes children on an exciting study of the Lake District, where they learn to use maps, understand physical and human features, and carry out local fieldwork investigations.

In Science, children investigate forces and magnets through hands-on experiments, predicting, testing, and exploring how objects move and interact. Creative skills are developed in Art and DT through textile work inspired by spiders, while PE focuses on problem-solving and athletics to promote teamwork and physical fitness.

Additional subjects enrich learning further: RE explores themes of family, duty, and beliefs through stories such as Rama and Sita; French builds language skills around dates and everyday vocabulary; and ICT introduces coding concepts, animation, and online safety.

This carefully planned curriculum encourages independence, creativity, and critical thinking, supporting every child to thrive academically and personally
