In Design & Technology at Primet Primary, children’s technical and creative skills develop steadily from EYFS through to Year 6. Early years focus on exploring simple mechanisms, safe tool use, and basic construction. As they progress, pupils gain confidence in designing and making with increasing sophistication: building stable structures, creating functioning mechanisms (like levers, pulleys, gears and cams), working with textiles and food, and eventually incorporating simple electrical systems. Throughout the school, children are guided to plan, test, refine and evaluate their products, gradually becoming more independent, applying and building on prior learning in each unit. This sequenced approach ensures all pupils grow in innovation, resilience and technical fluency.
