INTENT STATEMENT

The music curriculum will enable children to listen and respond to a diverse range of music from different cultures around the world.  They will develop their confidence to perform as a group or individually using both tuned and un-tuned instruments and showcase their creativity through their compositions. 

Music is taught for an hour in each class once per week.  In year 3, children are being taught the recorder and all children have the opportunity to play the glockenspiel and a variety of untuned percussion instruments.

Recently, the school have begun to use the Sing Up music curriculum that utilises the national curriculum and the Model Music Curriculum as produced by the DFEE to ensure progression of skills across all three key stages.

Below you will also see our Music Development Plan which details how our school will ensure that all children have access to high quality music provision as set out in the National Plan for Musci Education.

The Aims of the National Plan for Music Education are as follows:

1. All children and young people receive a high-quality music education in the early years and in schools.  

2. All music educators work in partnership, with children and young people’s needs and interests at their heart.

3. All children and young people with musical interests and talents have the opportunity to progress, including professionally.
