Personal Social Health and Relationship Education

Intent Statement

t Primet Primary School, our PSHRE curriculum is designed to empower pupils to become emotionally intelligent, responsible, and active citizens. Through PSHRE, children learn to understand their own needs and respect the needs of others, equipping them with the skills to make informed choices and take responsibility at local, national, and global levels.

We prioritise the development of pupils’ social, emotional, spiritual, physical, moral, and cultural understanding, enabling them to grow into confident, safe, and independent individuals. Our approach fosters a positive whole-school ethos where every child feels secure and valued, supporting them to make the right decisions both within and beyond school.

PSHRE is a core element of our curriculum that permeates all aspects of school life. It is embedded within subjects such as Science, Computing, RE, and PE, while also taught as a discrete subject. This integrated approach ensures PSHRE provides a strong foundation for lifelong learning, wellbeing, and responsible citizenship.

Implementation

PSHRE is taught weekly across all year groups to ensure consistent coverage of the statutory requirements and our bespoke curriculum. Lessons are carefully planned to build knowledge and skills progressively, while remaining flexible to meet the needs of individual classes. Additional sessions are provided when necessary to address specific issues related to wellbeing, relationships, and friendships, ensuring that pupils receive timely support and guidance. Our approach includes whole-school initiatives, themed weeks, and cross-curricular links, reinforcing PSHRE as an integral part of school life.
