History
Intent statement
At Primet Primary, our history curriculum inspires curiosity and develops a deep understanding of the past. We teach pupils to explore chronology, ask meaningful questions, and make connections across time periods. Through engaging topics, local history studies, and research opportunities, children learn how past events have shaped the present and continue to influence the future.
Implementation
History is taught through carefully planned units that build chronological understanding and historical enquiry skills. Each year group explores significant events, people, and periods, with opportunities to link learning across subjects. Lessons include questioning, discussion, and research using a range of sources. Pupils engage with local history and national themes, supported by visits, artefacts, and interactive activities. Progression is mapped from EYFS to Year 6 to ensure knowledge and skills develop systematically.
